Halloween is now past, although “I” is still attempting negotiations as to how much candy she is allowed to consume every day. Except for my being attacked by a vicious strain of stomach flu on the actual day, this Halloween was full of costumes, jack-o-lanterns, and candy.
This year “I” picked out several little pumpkins at the pumpkin patch and dubbed them a “family”. She then named, painted, and chatted with these pumpkins as if they were her special friends.
“I” loved painting the pumpkins so much that she insisted on on painting her carved pumpkin as well! She chose red paint and explained that the pumpkin is bleeding because “it is very, very hurt and scary”.
After much vacillation, “I” decided that her costume of choice this year was a pirate. She spent the couple weeks leading up to Halloween practicing her “arghs” and sword skills.
Art and imagination! No wonder I love this time of the year!
